Whitewashing and Set up Methods
one. Whitewash Boards Initially.
This will conserve you a ton of time and headache if you do this very first. I experienced far better regulate of the shade when I took the time to whitewash the boards in advance of I put in them.
Dilute the paint of preference with h2o. I used about 75% paint to 25% h2o for this search. I did not want it to be way too white so I wiped it off, with a rag, proper just after implementing the paint with a brush. Let that dry for a few of hrs then you can commence installing.

2. Clean up the Surface.
Clean the ceiling with a damp rag and some dish cleaning soap to clear away any dust or dust. This will assist the boards adhere to the ceiling when you glue them in location.
You are going to also want to clear away the gentle fixtures to reinstall just after your plank ceiling is put in. We took this opportunity to swap the flush-mount “boob lights” with can lights and we appreciate the variance! More details about that coming in the online video.

three. Mark All the Flooring Joists or Ceiling Rafters.
In my circumstance, I was in the basement down below the main level of the dwelling, so I located all the flooring joists with a stud finder and chalked a line throughout the home to identify the middle of each and every flooring joist with a chalk line, so I could nail the boards to the flooring joists guiding the drywall in the ceiling.
I have noticed and researched other solutions to installing boards on the ceiling, but I resolved that just nailing and gluing to the ceiling was the finest option for me. Our concluded ceiling top without having the new boards was 7′-6″ and I did not want to make it way too substantially shorter with other solutions that I observed.

four. Start very first row.
Start on the longest wall in the back of the home, opposite of the doorway. I ran the boards the size of the home, perpendicular to the door. Slice the boards as you go with a miter observed.
Oriented the boards so the the tongue of the boards were being experiencing the entry of the home. I wanted to make certain that from the entry of the home you could not see into the gaps of the tongue and groove of the boards.
I applied the DAP DYNAGRIP Adhesive to the back of the board
Then used the pin nailer to maintain it in location on the ceiling although the adhesive dries. I nailed in to the edge of the tongue at and angle, to hide most of the nail heads. For the reason that I used a pin nailer most of the holes wherever so little it did not even mater way too substantially that they wherever displaying.
five. Offset the Finishes of the Boards
Offset the ends of the boards at the very least 4″ from the earlier row. You want to stay away from lining up the ends on each and every row as substantially as you can. This will give you a nicer staggered search.
six. Repeat the Process Until eventually the Ceiling is Finished
Repeat installing the tongue and groove planks right up until you’ve included the ceiling. The approaching online video will involve how to evaluate and cut all-around the holes for your lights, so be certain to subscribe to our YouTube channel to see that!
For the past row of boards I ripped the boards to width with a desk observed based on the remaining width I wanted to finish it off. I cut off the tongue conclusion of the board. You also have to clear away fifty percent of the groove up towards the ceiling in order to glue this piece in location.
At the time the past board is put in then you are done. We remaining the ceiling with whitewashed flat sheen search and we appreciate it.
