HUD Focuses on Housing Protections for ‘Returning Citizens’

HUD Secretary Fudge wrote a letter making it very clear that ex-prisoners qualify for crisis vouchers – and to stay clear of “overbroad denial … on the basis of prison records.”

WASHINGTON – U.S. Department of Housing and City Development (HUD) Secretary Marcia L. Fudge outlined steps that HUD is having to “improve public safety” – specifically by addressing the housing wants of ex-prisoners, which she calls “returning citizens.

In a letter despatched to community housing authorities, Fudge stated that returning citizens need to be incorporated in distribution of the not long ago awarded 70,000 crisis housing vouchers funded by the American Rescue Prepare.

Secretary Fudge’s letter is tied to the Biden-Harris Administration’s new detailed tactic to enhance community security.
