Vinyl privacy fences offer a stylish and low-maintenance solution for enhancing property privacy and security. However, the modular nature of these fences, while beneficial in some ways, can also create vulnerabilities. At Gifford Fence, we’ve developed specialized techniques to ensure our vinyl fences are not only aesthetically pleasing but also exceptionally strong and secure.
- Unwavering Foundations:
- Deep and Secure Post Installation: The cornerstone of a robust vinyl fence lies in its foundation. We prioritize deep post settings, typically burying each post at least 3 feet into the ground. This depth provides unparalleled stability, effectively anchoring the fence against strong winds, heavy snow loads, and other external forces.
- Concrete Reinforcement: Each post is meticulously secured with a minimum of 60 pounds of concrete. This substantial concrete base acts as a solid anchor, ensuring the post remains firmly in place even in the face of challenging weather conditions.
- Post Stability After Concrete Pouring: It’s crucial to avoid any disturbance of the post once the concrete has been poured. Shaking the post can create a void between the post and the setting concrete, compromising its stability and potentially leaving it loose in the ground. To prevent this, we advise customers to refrain from using the gates for at least 48 hours after installation to minimize any potential disturbance to the gate hinge or latch posts.
- Enhanced Rail Security:
- Reinforced Rail Connections: Vinyl fence rails typically feature tabs that lock into the post. However, these tabs can be relatively small and may not always provide the desired level of security. To address this, we employ a crucial reinforcement step: we install a screw within the top rail, securing it directly to the inside of the post wall. This internal screw acts as a powerful reinforcement, preventing the rail from being easily pulled out and significantly enhancing the fence’s overall security.
- Improved Structural Integrity: This internal screw reinforcement not only enhances security but also contributes to a more robust and cohesive fence structure. By effectively securing the rails to the posts, this technique helps to pull the entire fence together, creating a more unified and resilient barrier.
- Sturdy Gate Construction:
- The Importance of Cross Member Support: A critical factor in ensuring gate longevity and functionality is the inclusion of a strong cross member support. The absence of this support can lead to significant gate sag over time, compromising its functionality and aesthetics.
- Strategic Cross Member Placement: We recommend installing the cross member from the top of the hinge-side upright to the bottom of the latch-side upright. This strategic placement provides optimal support and helps to maintain the gate’s structural integrity.
- Utilizing Durable Support Materials: For the cross member, we utilize either matching vinyl V braces or readily available black metal supports. These durable materials provide the necessary strength and support to withstand the forces exerted on the gate.
By diligently implementing these key strategies, we ensure that your Gifford Fence vinyl privacy fence is not only exceptionally strong and secure but also built to last. These measures contribute to a more robust and dependable fence that will provide years of reliable service, while also maximizing the value of your investment in high-quality vinyl fencing.
